Andrew Macdonald - Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Macdonald joined Cytopia as Chief Financial Officer / Company Secretary in August 2005. He has 20 years of financial and commercial experience working in Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom. Before joining Cytopia, he previously held the roles of Finance Director and Company Secretary in Biota Holdings Ltd, Richard Oliver International Pty Ltd, Willis Ltd and as VP, Finance, and later CEO, of Sharinga Networks Inc.
Devron Averett - Chief Scientific Advisor
Dr Averett joined the company’s executive management team on a part time basis in 2008 to provide scientific leadership and guidance to the organisation. His global leadership roles at Glaxo Wellcome and Burroughs Wellcome and more recently at Valeant Pharmaceuticals International and Anadys Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (a company he co-founded), provide the necessary credentials in moving Cytopia's drugs development pipeline toward the market.
Holding a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology, Dr Averett has authored or co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications and numerous presentations. He is an inventor on 17 issued and nine pending US patents and their corresponding international filings. His work has contributed to the discovery or development of multiple oncology and antiviral medicines and drug candidates, including Zeffix™, Emtriva, Ziagen®, Arranon®, and most recently ANA598 for HCV and ANA773 in oncology.
Christopher J Burns, PhD - Director, Research
Dr Burns received a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Melbourne in 1989 and undertook postdoctoral research at Penn State University, USA. In 1991, he joined Pfizer Central Research in the UK and after five years returned to Australia to take up a position as Research Fellow in the School of Chemistry, University of Sydney. After two years he joined Sydney-based biotech company, Ambri Pty Ltd as Chemistry Project Leader. He joined Cytopia in 2001 to establish and lead the Medicinal Chemistry team and was appointed Director, Research in 2005.
Gregg Smith, PhD - Director, Drug Development & Operations
Dr Smith was appointed Director, Drug Development and Operations in 2006 after joining Cytopia in August 2005 as Head of Drug Development. Dr Smith has responsibility for Cytopia’s formal preclinical and clinical development programs and general company operations. He has nearly ten years’ drug development experience, including five years in product development, development management and business development roles in the Australian biotechnology companies, Kinacia and Cerylid Biosciences. Dr Smith holds an Honours degree in Pharmacy and a PhD in opioid pharmacology from the University of Queensland, School of Pharmacy and is a registered Pharmacist in Victoria. He is currently completing an MBA.
